Friday October 26th

Today was a so-so day, not sure how else to describe it. It is likely just part of the ups and downs that we will need to get used to. It may have even been a good day, but yesterday was so good, today can only be rated as average.

Bill is breathing great, and he seems really strong in his upper body and moves his legs alot. He is talking a lot. He is still confused from all the medication (he was on massive quantities of morphine) and has been doing some reminiscing about the Clinton Days and inquiring after the Democratic National Party. He is as funny as always whether he means to be or not. But he seems pretty positive and is ready to go.

I think this will be the hardest part, both of them are ready to go home now, and they are both so strong willed.

Mom had a bit of a setback, but apparently it is fairly common. She was extubated, but had to be re-intubated pretty quickly afterwards. She was having difficulty breathing . They are pretty sure she has pneumonia, and this is probably why she wasn't able to keep strength breathing. They will move forward with a slower "weaning" process, let the antibiotics kick in and get her strength back before trying it again.

We are sure there will be more ups and downs though, and thank you so much for all of your support.

Yhank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, emails, calls. Our parents are so lucky to have so many people who care about them. Kelly has been doing a great job of keeping everyone updated on the blog. Time seems to be going very slowly in our world...lots of time spent in waiting rooms and time waiting to talk to the many doctors we meet everyday. Some days are better than others, but the overall picture is positive and Anne and Bill are very strong in mind, body and spirit. We hope to get out of the ICU sometime soon so that they can start having some of their beloved friends visit. We will definately call on you, their friends, to come see them just as soon as they can have visitors other than just us kids.We love you all and please continue to pray for strength and recovery.
love to all, Karen

Dear Anne and Bill and Family,
Each and every day you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know it's been a long time since I've seen you but I want you to know that so many from the Fed are thinking of you and with you in spirit. I hope that each day is a little easier for you. Wish I was there to help in some way. Sending love and many prayers to you all. Susan Henderson, Charlotte, NC

Dear Family and Friends of Anne and Bill,

Tom and I have Anne and Bill in our thoughts and prayers constantly, along with my brother Bob who had a heart attack a week ago, has since fought off pnuemonia, and will have bypass surgery tomorrow (Monday)in Bristol, TN.

Today's doctors have a great deal of knowledge and skill, and I am confident that there are many new medical technologies to help them heal. Bill and Anne have fighting spirits and a strong will to live; they have already shown great ability to come back from injuries.

Rehabilitation will be a tremendous challenge for everyone, requiring a great deal of help, compassion, and patience. Please let us know specific ways that we can help --now and once they are able to receive visitors.

Love to all of you,
Mitzi and Tom Humphrey
